Assassin's Creed Shadows Claws of Awaji All Sumi-e Locations

Just like in the base Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players in Claws of Awaji can complete optional Sumi-e activities by finding spectacular views to paint across the island. However, unlike the base game, Sumi-e here is tied to the optional Painting Memories sidequest given by Junjiro, which becomes available when players return from the island to their Hideout for the first time.

When meeting Junjiro in the Hideout, he asks Naoe to take him along to see the island, but since it’s too dangerous, she promises instead to bring him something from her travels. This begins the Painting Memories sidequest, and completing it grants the Breathtaking achievement. Here’s how to find all Sumi-e locations on Awaji, finish Junjiro’s quest, and unlock the achievement.

Claws of Awaji All Sumi-E Map Locations

The first Sumi-e location in Claws of Awaji is almost impossible to miss, as it lies roughly in the middle of the island near the Izanagi Shrine map marker. Players visit this area as part of the story, making it easy to complete this Sumi-e and paint a view of the shrine’s tree that reflects the rich history of a renowned religious site of the island.

The second Sumi-e location can be reached only via the Trail of Eshima in the northern part of the island, below Iwaya Castle. Players need to traverse the straightforward but exciting path, using a mix of Naoe’s movement abilities and the grappling hook. At the end of the trail, Naoe arrives in front of the Eshima Rock with a striking seaside view.

The third and final Sumi-e is in the south, at the far left corner of the Claws of Awaji map. This location is accessible only by progressing through the long, winding Trail of the Naruto, which takes Naoe across mountain peaks above the shipwrecks. Along the way, there are hidden loot chests and optional assassination targets to discover (unlocking after the main story), so keep an eye out. At the end of the route, a stunning view of the Naruto Whirlpools awaits, allowing Naoe to paint the third picture to share the beauty of Awaji Island with Junjiro.

Claws of Awaji Painting Memories Quest Rewards

Like with Sumi-e in the base Assassin’s Creed Shadows, each new Sumi-e in the DLC rewards players with a unique painting that can be used to decorate Naoe’s Hideout by placing the paintings on walls in certain buildings (these walls must first be set up in Building mode).

After completing all three Sumi-e on Awaji and returning to speak with Junjiro in the Hideout, he is so delighted that he gives Naoe his own picture in return – Junjiro’s Painting. This ink artwork depicts three figures basking in the joy of found family and can also be used for Hideout decoration. Players receive some XP as well for completing the quest.

Finally, finishing Junjiro’s Sumi-e sidequest grants the Breathtaking achievement, which is available only to owners of the Claws of Awaji DLC.
